What is CAMP the RACE?

CAMP the RACE is a new-generation next level international sailing event that combines three experiences into one week: an elite-level performance Opti/Ilca4 clinic, a large-scale international Optimist regatta, and a lifestyle campus designed for sailors, families, and coaches. Built around community, performance, and international connection, the event aims to become one of Central Europe's most progressive youth sailing destinations.

Who are the optimist clinic coaches?

The Optimist clinic is led by an international coaching lineup by Atlantis Academy — founded and supervised by Simone Ricci (ITA) — on-site coaches are Coach Puglio (USA), Coach Manos (GRE), Kike Román (ESP), and a roster of 10+ international coaches including Pavlo Dontsov (UKR), Zsófia Weinber, and Lilla Takácsy (HUN) bringing their own teams.

How can I win the Winner Optimist?

All of our Optimist sailors attending the full program are eligible to win the Winner Optimist. The grand prize will be offered on one of the daily parties as a raffle prize. Just be present at the party and you are ready to go.

Will there be an on-site DJ at the CAMP?

Absolutely! Our on site DJ will play through morning setup, afternoon chill and during prize ceremonies. In fact, your favorite song will play when you go on stage.

Who is the CAMP for?

Optimist and ILCA 4 sailors aged roughly 8–16, their families, clubs, and the international coaching community. Whether you are chasing podium finishes or your first major international experience, the format is designed to welcome both ambitious competitors and developing racers.

What is the daily race format?

IODA course with 4-5 35 minute races per day aiming for 12 races total plus a final speed race close to the shore for the top 20 sailors. There will be daily prize-givings, sponsor parties, raffle and social programs around the marina campus.

When and where does it take place?

August 20–26, 2026, at Alsóörs Marina on Lake Balaton — a waterfront venue where the boat park, accommodation, café, beach, and event zones are all within a 5–7 minute walk.

What classes are included?

Optimist and ILCA 4.

Is this a clinic, a regatta, or both?

Both — plus a full campus experience around it.
Days 1–3: Atlantis Academy Clinic for Optimist sailors
Day 4: Rest & Community Day for Opti
Days 5–7: Camp International Regatta
Days 2-4: Atlantis Academy Clinic and practice race for ILCA4 sailors
Sailors can register for the full experience or selected segments individually.

What makes CAMP the RACE different from a traditional sailing clinic?

CAMP the RACE is designed as a complete international youth sailing campus experience — combining high-performance training with a social environment where sailors, coaches, and families spend an entire week together. The goal is not only stronger sailing performance, but also friendships, inspiration, motivation, and long-term community.

Is the event focused only on elite racing?

The coaching level is intentionally high and performance-oriented, but the atmosphere is designed to stay open, energetic, and social rather than overly rigid or stressful. We believe the best sailing environments combine serious training with fun, freedom, movement, and strong community energy.

Optimist Clinic

How many sailors does the clinic accept?

The Optimist clinic is capped at approximately 50 sailors in order to maintain elite coach-to-sailor ratios and a high-intensity training environment.

What level should I be to join the clinic?

The clinic is designed primarily for advanced and competitive sailors. If you are unsure whether the level is right for you, contact the organization team before registering.

What performance areas are covered during the clinic?

The clinic is designed for sailors aiming to take the next step in competitive racing. Across focused training days, sailors work on:

  • race preparation routines
  • boat fine tuning
  • sail trim and speed management
  • maneuver execution
  • tactical awareness
  • consistency under pressure

The emphasis is on building smarter, faster, and more complete racers.

Will the clinic include equipment setup and tuning sessions?

Yes. Coaches will guide sailors through practical setup work, including:

  • optimizing rig settings for different conditions
  • improving sail shape and balance
  • making faster adjustments on shore and on the water
  • understanding how setup influences speed and control

The objective is to help sailors become more independent and confident with their equipment.

What type of maneuver and handling training can sailors expect?

Boat handling is one of the core pillars of the clinic. Training blocks focus on:

  • dynamic tacks and gybes
  • cleaner and faster mark roundings
  • acceleration and stopping control
  • starting sequences
  • transitions between maneuvers

The goal is to improve efficiency, rhythm, and boat flow in real racing situations.

Is tactical coaching part of the program?

Definitely. Sessions explore:

  • starting line positioning
  • reading wind pressure and shifts
  • fleet management
  • strategic risk-taking
  • adapting to changing race situations

Coaches combine live exercises with post-session reviews to help sailors better understand racing patterns and decision-making.

How will video feedback be used?

Video and drone video review is integrated throughout the clinic. Training footage may be used during debriefs to analyze:

  • technique and movement
  • maneuver timing
  • positioning relative to other boats
  • body mechanics and balance
  • tactical choices on the course

Visual feedback helps sailors absorb coaching faster and identify details that are difficult to notice in real time.

Is there an early bird discount?

Yes. Atlantis Academy clinic regular price is €450 EUR/3days or €150/day. Early bird registrants save another €50 per sailor and this brings the total clinic price to €400. The early bird deadline is May 15, 2026 and availability is limited.

The event is targeting 200+ sailors, including Opti and Ilca 4 with a maximum fleet capacity of approximately 300 sailors.

Will there be international competition?

How do I register?

Registration runs through the CAMP the RACE website and Instagram channels. Spaces are limited, especially for the clinics.

Do I have to pay upfront?

During the initial registration phase, no upfront payment is required. Registration secures your spot, and payment instructions follow afterward.

Can I register only for the clinic or only for the regatta?

Yes. While the full-week experience is recommended, both segments are available individually.

What is the cancellation policy?

Cancellation terms are shared during the registration confirmation stage. For special situations, contact the organization team directly.

Can I charter a boat instead of bringing my own?

Yes. CAMP the RACE works with multiple charter partners including Winner, Blueblue, and Hook, with pricing starting at approximately €50 per day.

How do I reserve a charter boat?

Charter requests are submitted during registration. Boats are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, so early registration is strongly recommended.

What is included in the charter?

A race-ready boat with standard rigging. Exact inclusions depend on the selected charter partner.

Where can we stay?

Several accommodation options are available within a 5–7 minute radius of the venue, including:

Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport is approximately 85 minutes away by car, with direct highway access to the lake area. Car rentals are widely available at the airport.

The campus is a fully built-out event environment ashore. The venue includes:

  • Race HQ

All integrated into one walkable waterfront space.

What happens outside the sailing sessions?

  • ping pong and teqball
  • beach and water activities
  • swimming and recovery zones
  • sponsor activations
  • social spaces
  • sunset DJ sessions
  • evening programs

The goal is to create an environment where sailors naturally spend time together throughout the day — not only during racing.

Yes. Every evening includes a shared social component designed to bring together sailors, parents, coaches, and partners. This includes:

  • community dinners
  • sponsor-hosted events
  • casual sunset gatherings
  • raffles and prize drops
  • marina social activities

The atmosphere is intended to feel closer to an international sports festival or surf camp than a traditional regatta.

What is the Rest & Community Day?

The built-in community day includes beach activities, local experiences, sports, and family programs designed to help sailors recharge between the clinic and regatta phases.

How do I order food and drinks on site?

Through a QR-based ordering system that is multilingual and compatible with international payment methods.

For Parents

Is there a dedicated experience for parents?

Absolutely. CAMP the RACE is intentionally designed around the reality that youth sailing is also a family experience. Parents will have:

  • a dedicated waterfront café and reception area
  • viewing spaces overlooking the race area
  • social opportunities with other sailing families
  • access to hospitality and beach zones throughout the week

Is there programming for non-sailing family members?

Yes. Beach zones, community events, and the relaxed campus atmosphere are designed for the entire family — not only the sailors.

Can clubs attend as a group?

Absolutely. Many clubs are already in discussion with the organization team. Group coordination, accommodation blocks, and dedicated coach areas are all part of the event planning.

Is there a dedicated coach area?

Yes. A dedicated coach zone will provide the space and operational support needed throughout the week.

Will sailors from different countries interact together?

Yes — this is one of the core ideas behind the event. The campus layout, evening programs, sports activities, shared dinners, and social spaces are all designed to encourage interaction between sailors from different clubs and countries. The long-term vision is for CAMP the RACE to become one of the key international meeting points for the next generation of Optimist and ILCA sailors.
